Task 1: Andy Warhol Text & Images

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was a artist from the United States Of America, he was born on August the 6th 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.

At the age of 8 Andy was sadly diagnosed with a sometimes-fatal disease called Chorea also known as St. Vitus’s, which affected the nervous system, which left him in bed sick for several months. It was there where he found his undiscovered talent his mother a skilful artist gave Andy his first drawing lessons. After that drawing soon became Andy’s favourite things to do.

Andy’s Father Ondrej Warhola worked as a construction worker & Julia Warhola Andy’s mother was an Embroiderer. An Embroider is someone who knits or does lots of needlework like knitting a lot of materials.

Andy Warhol was gay and said that he was still a virgin in a interview            in 1980 just 7 years before he had pasted away.

Andy was most known for his paintings and films, he authored works in many other different types of products in the media spectrum.

Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the visual art movement also known as Pop Art.  His Art travels the relationships between artistic expression, Celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960’s.

One of Andy’s most famous pieces of art is called ‘Campbell’s Soup painting’

In it, it contained 32 Campbell’s cans all have the same exact colour, size and shape. The picture bellow is the “32 Campbell’s Painting”.  This painting was created in 1962

Another one of Andy’s Famous picecs is “The Eight Elvises”. The “Eight Elvises” is created with 8 identical Elvises over lapping one another in a cowboy outfit over a grey background. The Painting was created in 1963, one year after the “32 Campbell’s Cans” paintingwas created. Below is the painting of the “Eight Elvises”.

Mr Warhol graduated from college in 1949 and relocated to the city that never

sleeps, New York City  to chase his dream to become a commercial artist it was at this time of his life he decided to drope the “A” in “Warhola” for it to now say “Warhol” he was the only one in his family to do so.

Not only was Mr Warhol known for his art we was also know for his quotes a few of his quotes that I like are below;

·      “I’d prefer to remain a mystery. I never give my background, and, anyway, I make it all up different every time I’m asked.”

  • “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”
  •   “Isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?”
  •  “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”
  • “I’m afraid that if you look at a thing long enough, it loses it’s meaning.”

I think what Andy meant by the quote “In the future everyone will be famous or 15 mins” is that everyone will have a moment in their liftime were they might feel important or famous because of attention people are giving them or that maybe just maybe they might evene be actually famous like a celebrity but not for long.

Andy Warhol worked across a wide spectrum of media these including: Paintings, Photography, drawing and scuptures. One of Andys most famous films “Sleep” overlooks a poet named ‘John Giorno’ sleeping for 6 hours.

In the mid 60’s Andy embraced a band called “The Velvet Underground” making them a critical element of the errupting plactic inevitable multimedia performace art show.

In the late 1950’s, Warhol began to start to actually put his full attention into painting, he then also began to devote all his time and energy into becoming the brilliant famous artist we know him to be.

At the age of 58 Andy sadly passed away in New York City on February 22nd 1987. The News reports said that he had been making good recovery from a routine gallbladder surgery at New York Hospital before dying in his sleep from an apparent sudden post-operative cardiac arrhythmia. Warhol postponed having his recurring gallbladder problems checked, as he was afraid to enter hospital and see doctors.

His family later then sued the Hospital for improper care and water intoxication and also for inappropriate care to Andy clamming that the arrhythmia was also caused by improper care from the hospital staff, workers and nurses. The Warhol Family received a undisclosed amount of money from the law suit by the hospital and the disputed was settled out side of court walls.
